Chomphu, or rose apple, is a bell-shaped fruit with smooth pink, red or green skin. Its flesh is white, crunchy and juicy, with a slightly sweet and very refreshing taste. It is eaten fresh, often dipped in a mixture of sugar, salt and chili powder. Chomphu is 90% water, making it an ideal fruit for rehydration in the tropical climate.

History & Origin

Chomphu is native to Southeast Asia and has grown naturally in Thailand for centuries. It is cultivated in family gardens and sold at local markets. In Thailand, there are several varieties, from pale green to dark red.
