Description

Khanun, or jackfruit, is the largest fruit in the world, weighing up to 35 kg. Its yellow flesh is divided into fleshy bulbs surrounding large seeds. The taste is sweet and fragrant, reminiscent of a mix of pineapple, banana and mango. In Thailand, it is eaten fresh as fruit, but also cooked: unripe bulbs are used in curries, and seeds are boiled or roasted. Ripe jackfruit is also dried or made into chips.

History & Origin

Jackfruit has been cultivated in Thailand for centuries and is an integral part of food culture. In Thai Buddhist tradition, the jackfruit tree is considered sacred. Its wood is used to make musical instruments and furniture. Thailand is one of the world's leading jackfruit exporters.
