Artisanal coconut milk ice cream
Itim Kati is an artisanal coconut milk ice cream, one of the most refreshing street desserts in Thailand. The ice cream is made from fresh coconut milk, sugar and sometimes pandan or taro for color and fragrance. It is served in a small brioche bun or cup, topped with roasted peanuts, sweet corn, shredded coconut and sometimes sticky rice. The texture is lighter and less fatty than classic ice cream, with a pure and refreshing coconut taste.
Itim Kati is a Thai street food tradition dating back to the 1950s, when the first artisanal ice cream carts appeared on Bangkok streets. Before industrial ice cream arrived, Itim Kati was the only ice cream available. Street vendors with their colorful carts are part of the Thai urban landscape.
